ABOUT

WILDFLOWER is a fashion label designed by Kate Alice Williams focusing on unique statement pieces, made from quality natural fibres. The WILDFLOWER brand has a strong DNA with garments that stand alone in their design, transcending trends and made only in small exclusive runs. Kate’s design influences are from film character styling, musicians, cowboys, tribal cultures and the power of historical dress. These influences are then combined in a way that pays attention to the form and function of clothing.
The ‘Jon Silva 100% merino wool pants’ are a classic WILDFLOWER garment. They are a mix between a pleated front dress trouser and button fly long johns, a style that is very versatile in the modern day wardrobe.
Kate studied fashion technology and design at CPIT in Christchurch New Zealand and graduated in 2002. Her graduation collection, ‘Jamaican Jazz’, was chosen as the finale at Pitch fashion show. She was then asked to showcase the collection to open the World of Wearable Arts Christchurch show.
Kate then went on to work as a costume designer for film and since her move to Melbourne in 2006 she has continued her work as a designer, costume maker and stylist for an eclectic client base. She has also sold a recycled vintage fabric range in the store Subterranean to great success.
In 2008 she was invited to showcase her new collection at The Famous Spiegeltent, where she launched her label WILDFLOWER.
In 2012, WILDFLOWER, an experimental short film featuring Kate’s new range and styling was shot in the Australian desert with a full film crew and director Lizzy Bailey. The film features six complete looks with the aim to showcase fashion in a new and interesting way, and to view the range in three dimensional movement, within the context of a certain mood.
The collection was made from merino wool, silk, cotton and vintage leather. A majority of the fabrics sourced are original prints from the 60s. The key inspirations for the latest collection are gypsies, vagabonds, ancient cultures, faded sea side glamour, 60s Bollywood and the blues.
